The view of the Acropolis is wonderful from the hotel. The breakfast buffet is delicious and with great choices and the best part is that it is offered with view of Acropolis. The spa was incredible and very fairly priced for treatments. The staff at hotel and spa are very friendly yet professional. They went above and beyond to accommodate our needs during our stay. We highly recommend the Grand Hyatt Athens.

With the Acropolis as the jewel in the archaeological crown of Athens, this city is full of history while embracing the future. Take a stroll back in time through the neoclassical streets of the Plaka, where you'll find tavernas serving tantalizing souvlaki and mousaka, street vendors and live entertainment.
A trip to the Parthenon and the Agora top most lists and can also be appreciated from a distance by walking along the Dionysiou Aeropagitou street, which is away from the busy crowds of the city center.
The changing of the guard occurs every hour on the famous Syntagma Square. From here, Ermou Street provides shopaholics with a fashionable retail sanctuary. The upscale districts Kolonaki and Kifisia are also bursting with fancy boutiques, galleries and bars.
Athens has some of the finest museums in the world, such as the National Archaeological, Acropolis and Benaki Museums. From Athens International Airport to the Port of Piraeus, this is a city bustling with the old and new. On Booking.com you can find everything from modern hotels to a room in a classical building.
Bustling, busy city. Its much cleaner than it used to be, less pollution. Traffic is insane, but it moves. It's small enough that you can easily walk around the central area. It's surprisingly affordable, meals were about 1/2 the cost of the islands. Loads to see and do and the shopping is fantastic if you're into that. The people are gracious and friendly and kind.

Athens is the paradise of mythology and great for visiting lots of archeological sites, as history and ancient Greek arts are everywhere. Great places to shop and the food is excellent. You get around easily by foot and the subway system is reliable. But be aware of thieves in the subway, especially on the airport line 3, and more if you carry luggage inside the trains, they tried to rob us twice with the same MO as they work in teams of 3 or 4 persons. Be very careful to wallets and pockets.

Athens has a good and cheap public transport system.
Athens has a good and cheap public transport system. Single tickets were just 1,20 Euro. You can also walk easily across the city center.
We enjoyed the National Gallery and the Benaki Museum. The National Historical Museum was interesting, presenting the modern history, but beware that most of the displays are only in Greek. Kotsanas Museum of Ancient Greek Technology was surprisingly interesting, showcasing fantastic inventions made in ancient times. But the museum is small so the inventions don't all get the space they deserve to have.
We went on a three hour long free walking tour with Guru walks (guide Elena). It was a good walk with loads of information.
A local restaurant we can recommend is the family-run (?) Karamanlidika which had simple, but tasty local dishes. We loved the starters "Sahanaki fried cheese with chili and the stuffed wine leaves.
On the other hand we found a hole in the wall restaurant, Avli, which always seemed to have a long queue of guests. We stood in line for 40 minutes for disappointing food and service.

Interesting places to visit - expensive though - and very, very crowded even in May.
Be very careful walking on the polished marble pavements even in the dry - they're like an ice rink.
Plenty of good eating places covering all tastes and pockets.
Lots of graffiti around.
Strong police presence around key tourist sites - but seem more of a deterrent than active.
Plenty of taxis at a reasonable cost.
Many monuments obstructed by scaffolding and cranes (difficult balance between maintenance and obstruction of the amenity).

Athens is a wonderful city.
Athens is a wonderful city. I really enjoyed the balance of history and culture along with modern amenities and cultural experiences. If you're heading to the islands, don't bother with the coastal areas. We had 2 days to explore and felt that it was plenty, but there are plenty of museums and sites that we could've explored had we stayed longer.

Beautiful historic city. Well laid out. People friendly.
Beautiful historic city. Well laid out. People friendly. Lots to see. Was a bit chilly in early May. Beach was a bit rocky and water too cold for swimming, but worth the trip for the scenery alone {hop on hop off bus takes you to a few]. There during Greek Orthodox Easter week/holiday so lines were short, and markets not overcrowded. Lots of walking so wear good shoes and go everywhere!
Was there a week - sick first day with a cold so stayed in and relaxed. Walked around different areas local to where I stayed, Took 2 day Hop on-Hop off bus [all 3 lines] and saw most of athens in a loop, then returned to see the sights that interested me.
Make sure you buy tickets for the Acropolis in advance!! and get there on time. Early morning and late afternoon best times - not too hot and overcrowded.
Just go! Enjoy a historical city full of culture and history!
Philia Boutique is a very nice and new hotel. Great location very close to Syntagma square and some of the best dining spots in Athens. Good quality breakfast that you can choose to have served on your balcony, patio or in the lobby. Comfortable room with great amenities and nice balcony overlooking the church. At the time we visited the hotel there were ongoing noisy construction works right in front of the hotel but the rooms are well soundproofed so it didn't bother us at all.
All good things to say about Demetrios as a host and the location at Samou 10. We enjoyed a good breakfast every morning thanks to ample supplies in the fridge. He brought some spaghetti and sauce for our first night because our international flight arrived late. The last day he held our baggage for a few hours while we explored Athens. Great air conditioning units in the rooms and a nice balcony for breakfast. Overall, we loved our stay and felt very welcome in Greece.
This is the second time that my family has stayed at this remarkable apartment. We liked it so much last year that we wanted to return. Odyssey Residence deserves the glowing reviews it receives. It is comfortable, very clean, and well equipped. The washer, dishwasher, and elevator are all extra appreciated, and it is a rare find in Athens to get 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms in 1 apartment. My family plans to make this home base whenever we are in Greece.
The location is very nice in the city center and close to all the attractions. I could do everything on foot and the metro to the airport is also close to the hotel.
The room is very clean and nice, they offer a robe and slippers. There was a coffee maker in the room, kettle and tea available.
The staff is very nice and friendly, they gave me great advice and we talked a lot about the city and Greece.
Breakfast is also great, many options and very tasty.
This is my first hotel in Greece and I have to say that it made my stay in Athens much more pleasant. The hotel is within 10 minutes walk to the biggest attractions in Athens. The rooms are designed in calming colors and decorations, the staff and the service are super good and helpful. If you book in there you definitely need to book their breakfast because they have really good ones with a very wide variety of choices to eat and drink in the morning.
We spent our last two nights in Greece here and thoroughly enjoyed them. Absolutely amazing location of the hotel, excellent breakfast in the restaurant at the foot of the hotel. Amazing attitude of the staff, nothing was a problem. We needed a second key to the room and we were perfectly accommodated. The accommodation was clean and the equipment absolutely sufficient. We will definitely stay here next time we visit Athens. Highly recomnended!
Wonderful hotel with spacious and comfortable room, best location in Athens,5 minutes walking from Syntagma Square and old Plaka district.
The breakfast was very delicious with lots of hot/cold food ,sweets, fruits ,many varieties and tasty natural orange juice.
The reception Staff was very kind especially Mr. Dimitris who was very very helpful and friendly and did everything to let us satisfied.... thank you very much Demitris.
Very good location and facilities but we loved the most was the excellent staff starting from George at the front desk when we checked in. We had requested an early checking because we reached the hotel by 11am. We got the room by 12. George even offered us a complimentary breakfast while we waited which was much needed after our long flight to Greece . Will definitely stay here again when we come back .
This hotel is perfectly placed if you want to be close to Syntagma Square, Plaka and the National Gardens. It is a 3 minute walk from the X95 bus stop (the Athens Airport bus - cost 5 euros and 50 cents).
We had a lovely big room that overlooked the road and church at the front of the building.
The breakfast was top class with plenty of choice and all high quality.
A very positive experience.
This Hotel is simply amazing and worths way more than only 2-stars. Best breakfast that we had in whole Greece on a rooftop with stunning view over the Acropolis. Cosy and spacious and stylish rooms and located in the best neighborhood in Athens (at least in my opinion.) Best restaurants, nice little shops, authentic and no tourist atmosphere and only 1 metro-ride from monastiraki.
If I ever return to Athens this will be my first choice of a place to stay. Best place I stayed at in Greece.
Super friendly and helpful staff. Clean, quiet, very big, the bed is one of the best I've had at a hotel, AC works great, perfect hot water and pressure, wifi works great, kitchen and living room, amazing value for what you pay, good location, and has an elevator.
The staff went beyond my expectations. They took the time to explain me how to spend my 2 days in Athens best and where to have my laundry done.
Also they have been the best in terms of (Covid) hygiene during my Greece trip (out of the 9 hotels i have visited so far).
Finally, there is a decent supermarket next door where you can buy water and snacks for a nice price.
The location between the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum was perfect. And our courtyard room was quiet which was why I had booked it. (Many reviews of hotels in Athens complain about noise from local bars.) The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was the best we had across 10 hotels in Greece with many choices.
I loved our host. She was so accommodating and helped us so much. We were in Greece during a taxi strike and she made us very comfortable tortellini us how to qget to airport. It was a beautiful apartand the neighborhood in Athens the best. I will be back.
We arrived at the end of a 2-week trip in Greece and just loved this brief stay in Athens. Fantastic, lively neighborhood, with shops and restaurants, live music and scenic walking. The hotel offered an excellent, huge breakfast. Service was terrific.
Easy instructions from host about getting into the apartment. It is located in a central location in Athens so we were able to easily walk to different neighborhoods to explore. I would recommend this place to others if they are coming to Greece.
Modern apartment in an excellent location which was in the heart of ancient and contemporary Athens. Love the neighborhood and the shops all around the area.
Definitely I will choose this apartment in our next visit in Greece.
Thank you so much
Best location great staff when you come to Greece this hotel is a little peace of home , no language barrier right by the mediterranean with all the modern conveniences, that you were expecting a hotel in the United States
